Rachel Ann Buch
Rachel Ann Buch is a recent graduate of the National Art School, having completed her studies in 2014 majoring in ceramics. Since then she has developed projects as artist and curator for spaces such as the Bondi Pavilion, Glebe Markets and Gaffa, all of which focus on experience as a methodology of appreciating art. Other achievements include Being selected as a finalist for the Alice Prize in 2016 and the Stone Villa Wearable Art Prize in 2017.
In light of the recent news reports regarding a plague of mange driving wombats into extinction, Rachel will be creating Ghostly Gums a fantastical wombat sanctuary, a mythical place where wombats are free from harm. The artwork will recreate the Australian bush in shades of pink and blue. Ceramic wombats will be nestled in soft wool burrows. There will be family/children interactive sections, as well as fantastical creatures in elaborate costumes. It will be a unique and creative celebration of Australian animals and plant life, encouraging wonderment and curiosity— qualities said to be quite prevalent in wombats. It will also be an opportunity to give out information on organisations such as Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary who dedicate their lives to protecting wombats.
